Community Ministries

Associated Charities

Here in La Junta, Associated Charities provides food, shelter, and support to families in need. The church gives its financial support, as well as monthly and special donations of nonperishable food.

The Deacon’s Fund

The Deacon’s Fund is a financial resource provided to families and individuals directly in our community. Donations are accepted year round and administered by a church volunteer and the pastor.

Annual Mission Trips

Our church sends missionaries throughout the country and the globe on short term mission projects.

Our most recent global mission was an adult mission trip to Belize. In 2006, 5 men from our church went to Houma, Louisiana, and helped with hurricane cleanup and rebuilding. In 2007, a group of families spent a week at the Martineztown House of Neighborly Service in Albuquerque, NM.

Angel Tree

During November and December, church members are matched anonymously with local children whose parents are currently incarcerated. The gifts are delivered by church members to the homes of the children’s caregivers, as an expression of God’s love and generosity.

Operation Christmas Child

Along with many local congregations, we support Operation Christmas Child by assembling shoe boxes of items for children around the world. Our members have also participated in the assembling of the boxes at the regional center in Denver

Support Ministies in our town

We are collecting caps & mittens & sweats for kids at La Junta Primary School and Child Development Services. The basket is in the entryway and you can add to our collection.

Our Compassion team and other volunteers from our church and community have been working inside and outside on two homes in the community. New roofs, porches fixed, windows replaced, painting inside and out, carpeting, yard work and more were completed in the fall. of 2009.

Global and National Ministries

We support the missions of the Presbyterian Church (USA) nationally and globally through our Designated Offerings. These include the One Great Hour of Sharing offering taken on Easter Sunday, the Peacemaking Offering in October, and the Hunger Offering on Maundy Thursday. The Christmas Joy offering supports our racial/ethnic educational institutions and an emergency relief fund for church workers.

Mission Partners are invited to speak at the church and share the impact of our giving. In 2004, Desiree Hodgson shared with us about her ministry in Eastern Asia, and in 2005, we heard from Chad Parmenter of La Puente, in Alamosa, CO. Virginia Gartrell, from the Bethel Children's Home in Brazil talked to our congregation in 2006. During October 2009 Pix Mahler, a mission worker in Haiti, spent several days in La Junta sharing info on what the Presbyterian Church is doing in partnership with other denominations in Haiti.  Dr. Jim Smith, a surgeon from Pueblo, shared his recent experience in Haiti with our congregation on February 21st.
